Earthquake

Four ground-shaking varietals are produced under our Earthquake label:

2007 Zinfandel
It will Rock Your World!!

Over the top and shattering to the veins, all varietals under the Earthquake label are Michael and David’s reserve level wines.  These wines possess major concentration and daring flavor with only a limited production offered each year.  The original was the Earthquake Zin that came from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the time of San Francisco’s great earthquake in 1906.  While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake.  With over 15% alcohol and bold tannins, these dark and voluminous wines will definitely leave your senses quivering.

Double Gold
2010 San Francisco Chronicle

What Makes You Quake?
Huge, dark and rich. Coffee, dark chocolate, blackberry, plum and black cherry aromas, with smoky, spicy notes. Powerfully rich in the mouth with good intensity. A long spicy finish.

Survival Kit:
A juicy cherry cobbler piled atop vanilla ice cream will make this Earthquake scream.  But if you want dinner first, we suggest a grilled fig, balsamic and shaved parmesan appetizer and then get daring with hearty lamb chops and a sweet demi-glaze.

Old Lodi Vines, yielding supreme
Like ancient volcanoes, releasing their steam.

Danger is present, felt but unseen
Vines of such power, such high self-esteem.

Intentionally hostile, purposely bold
Nice not an option, when truth must be told.

Energy captured, awaiting release
Zinfandel Vines, the great seismic beasts.

Instilling such fear, a risk few will take
Nothing prepares you for the Zinfandel Quake.

Are you ready for the big one?

2006 Petite Sirah
It will Rock Your World!!

Big, ripe dark berries leave just a hint of sweetness on the tongue with overtones of chocolate and tobacco. A long peppery finish follows. Ample tannins and substantial body make this one enormous and delicious swallow of wine.

"Absolutely outstanding is the 2006 Earthquake Petite Sirah. This is a stunning example of Petite Sirah, exhibiting graphite, blueberry notes, and acacia flowers in a powerful full bodied style." Robert Parker, August 2009

Survival Kit:
This Earthquake drinks wonderfully on its own and also pairs excellently with baked brie and blueberry reduction sauce or a blue cheese flank steak--- anything intense!

Powerful Titan, arms reaching for sky,
Earthbound devourer, open your eyes!

Throw off your blankets, the day has begun,
Indulge yourself in warm Lodi sun.

Take what is given, the world is your own,
enjoy your dominion, you sit on the throne.

Stand and be noticed, grape without peer,
Instruct in the others what they should fear.

Raise up your standard, proclaim your rights,
Answer to no one, conquer with might.

Hail the victor, the king without flaw,
Salute your new master...Petite Sirah

2006 Cabernet Sauvignon
It will Rock Your World!!

Very dark purple colored and opens with an attractive blend of mild blackberry, coffee, cinnamon, and clove-like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, very nicely balanced, smooth, and elegant. The flavor profile is a tasty mild black currant with notes of coffee, bacon, and milk chocolate. The finish is dry with mild fine tannins.

Survival Kit:
Make your toes curl with a mesquite grilled, bone-in rib eye steak, slathered with blue cheese butter and grilled onions. Our Cab will wash that baby down! (Add a side of veggies if you must.)

Extra Advice:
Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Petite Sirah and Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak for 32 months.

2006 Syrah
It will Rock Your World!!

Earth-shattering Syrah fruit, blended with a bit of Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon, trembles throughout the nose with cherry and spice. On the palate, black cherry flavors dominate, along with ripe berries and plum, in a sweet earth context, with a leather highlight in a long, moderately tannic finish.

"Another soft, fleshy wine is the 2006 Earthquake Syrah. It has some hefty alcohol at 15%, but the wine is pure and has plenty of black fruits, underbrush, and meaty notes in a full-bodied, classic Syrah style. Drink it over the next 5-6 years." Robert Parker, August 2009

Survival Kit:
Pair this intense Syrah with diverse foods such as chocolate-smothered strawberries, BBQ slathered ribs or even Halibut with a buttery caper sauce. But don’t be afraid to sip this one by itself to discover its enticing layers of flavor!

Savage Syrah, the volitile Rhone,
Yielding to no one, solid as stone

Rampant destruction, so readily released,
Audacious and proud, this hostile beast.

Harboring rage, so easily displayed,
Savage Syrah and the Red Rhone Brigade.

Yearning to conquer, ready to rule,
Ravaging others, destruction the tool.

Armed for conflict, domination the key,
Havoc is spreading, Syrah's Victory.
